Adult Brazilian
Jiu-Jitsu

The purest form of Jiu-Jitsu for adults of every level — from your first day to competition. Gi and no-gi, taught step by step and coached one-on-one, in a room that trains like a family. Safe for any age or fitness level.

The Program

Start where
you are

Our Team Balance Basics program is the most effective way to learn Jiu-Jitsu self-defense. You’ll build a real foundation — leverage, position, and submission — through clear, patient instruction and consistent practice. We get to know you first, then shape the path around where you want to go.

Our Basics program is perfect whether you’re “in shape” or “out of shape.” You’ll get fit as you train, learning simple techniques that don’t rely on strength — and progressing at your own pace toward advanced gi and no-gi grappling. Instructors work with you individually, adjusting the details to your body and your goals.

  • All levels welcome — beginners train safely alongside experienced students
  • Gi & no-gi submission grappling
  • Competition class & open-mat sparring for those who want it
  • Family atmosphere — training partners who know your name and want you to get better

Inside A Class

A full mat,
every class

Class opens with warm-ups and drilling, then moves to live rounds. Coaches work the room the whole time — stopping pairs, fixing details, and matching you with partners who suit your size and experience.

You’ll roll with people who go as hard as you want to and no harder. That’s what lets beginners and competitors share the same mat without anyone getting hurt or left behind.

The Adult Program

Who you’ll
train with

Beginners, competitors, and everyone in between — on the mats together, looking out for each other. You’ll learn as much from the people around you as from the coaching.

Do I need experience to start?

No. Most people walk in with zero experience. Our certified instructors teach in an organized, patient way so beginners can follow along safely from day one — and you’ll get personal attention, so you’re never lost or left out.

Do I need a gi for my first class?

No — shorts and a t-shirt are fine for your free trial. Once you enroll we’ll help you get a proper gi.

Is Jiu-Jitsu a good workout?

Yes. Consistent training builds real conditioning while you learn — one of the reasons members call it one of the best workouts they’ve had.

“I joined Tampa Jiu-Jitsu after moving to Tampa 4 months ago. I was looking for a gym similar to the one I trained at in Chicago — down to earth, laid back, honest, with good instruction and one that was more about teaching BJJ than making money and locking contracts. After trying out a few other places and meeting Ryan and his other instructors I chose Tampa Jiu-Jitsu as it checked all those checkboxes for me. The instruction is great, you get a mix of 4 different instructors teaching 6 days a week, people are friendly, but also tough and skilled. Glad I found this gem!”
